the look doesn't bother me, and i have been thinking about an ipod, but it's just too damn hard to justify, expecially with new generations not seeming to offer much incentive to buy.. no real new features that's like "holy crap.." It just seems meh to me..

I only got my 3g 20GB a couple of weeks ago... so I'm still within the return period from where I bought it.

I'm considering returning it cuz for the 4g ipods... I'll get double the storage and somewhat better battery life for the same cost. Although I'm not too sure I'll be a fan of the clickwheel.

Well it's here. http://www.apple.com/ipod/ Significant changes are the price, size (not a lot), multiple on-the-go playlists and the clickwheel.

Don't know if the wheel is backlit (doesn't appear that way), but now I know I will be picking one up sometime this fall for sure. Does anyone find the remote useful? On my minidisc player, I find myself using the LCD remote like crazy. I don't know how it will be with this one since it doesn't have an LCD.

Apparently it is shipping within 1-2 business days, so hopefully someone will have a review pretty soon.

Still doesnt compare to a decent MP3 player or a minidisc unit. Any alternatives with longer battery life?

Yeah, you've got the biggest e-penis.

I'm definitely planning on getting one of these. I was planning on getting a Zen Touch, simply because of the ability to edit playlists on the fly. Now that the iPod can do it, and it had the cool clickwheel, I'm all over it as soon as I sell my 3G 40GB.

One of Sony's new HD-based players does this (minus the liner notes, which I doubt you'll ever see). I think it's an awesome feature as well. Hopefully the new Rio Karma will do it too as it should have a color screen.

As for the new iPod, the extended battery life is awesome, as is the on the fly playlist features and the one touch shuffle is a nice feature too. The price drop is always welcome as well. Nice upgrades, IMO, but nothing groundbreaking.

not groundbreaking, but it does put it back on top of the pack without a doubt.

Talk about unnecessary feature-itis.
