Newsweek highlights new 4G iPod features

Newsweek has revealed some details on the upcoming new iPod in its "advance peek" article. The fourth generation iPod has a new "click wheel" similar to the iPod mini, "where the controls are placed on the compass points of the circular touchpad that lets you scroll through menus." Other new features include; a more effificent menu - "'Music' is a first-level entry, and now a single click initiates the popular technique of shuffling your library for playback."; you can create mulitple on-the-go playlists and delete on-the-go playlists; listen to audio books "at normal speed, slower or 25 percent faster"; the battery is rated for 12 hours of power, a 50% increase; and new lower prices - 40GB for $399, 20GB for $299 and the 15GB has been dropped. The new iPod is also about one millimetter thinner than previous models, and contrary to rumors there are no new colors being offered except classic white.

Will the old iPods be upgraded to the new software? If so, the only real upgrade is the battery.

i wonder how much they are going to make the 4G 15Gb model.

$279? too close to the 20GB

$249? same price as the iPod mini

fat chance.

they didn't give any of the previous generation owners a firmware update.

they want you to spend more cash and buy the latest toy.

i mentioned this in the other iPod thread....the single sweetest upgrade (for any mp3 player), would be displaying album cover art and liner notes on the iPod. of course that would mean a higher resolution and a color display, but it seems like the next logical step.

Yeah, that would be sweet, but their batteries aren;t stellar perofrmers if you know what I mean.

Some people are saying that the 60GB isn;t too far off. Maybe they'll add that to those?

True, but someone posted the link to the Newsweek cover in there. I suppose the announcement does need it's own thread. It really doesn't matter to me. I just figured if we already had 1 4th Gen thread floating around, there really isn't any sense in making another.

Then again this is a free society - we can make as many threads as we want.

I forgot about that small detail. ;)

Anyways - does anyone think there are other features in this 4th Gen that aren't listed in the article? Or do you think what they listed in the Newsweek magazine is it?
