New iPhone To Be Announced In Mid-January?

I just picked one up yesterday, and of course within a few hours of doing so, I ran into multiple iPhone users who all seem certain there is a new iteration of the iPhone with 3G and other features the current one is lacking due to be announced in mid-January at MacWorld 2008.

Not finding anything on the typical Mac rumor sites I peruse, but I have found it on some non-Mac specific rumor sites.

If they do in fact announce one, I am guessing it is going to be at least a year off before release or risk pissing off the faithful that already purchased one, but you never know. I am torn between opening and activating my iPhone and waiting a few weeks to see what happens. Whatever does happen would probably not affect me that much, as I tend to keep my cell phones until I run them into the ground.

I agree, it needs to be a year before they update the iPhone. They already stabbed iPhone users in the back with the $200 price drop a few months ago...if they introduced a new one a mere 6 months later people would be even more upset. The next one should be a 32-gig iPhone with 3G (which I would be more than willing to buy!), but I would feel pretty mad if it came out in January, I haven't even owned mine for 6 months yet lol.

Macworld will feature the SDK unveiling, they're not gonna do something so stupid as to announce a new phone now and cannibalize the sales of the current one.

Wouldn't January be around the 1-year anniversary of the "vapour launch" of the iPhone?

I find that the iPod rumored release dates were always accurate. My guess is that this is real.

I hope the thing has more memory, better software, and VOIP.

I hope it is January. A lot of people (me included) decided to pass on the first gen iphone. To me, not enough space. I would be interested in at least a 16GB. A lot of products are on six month cycles (video cards). Some iphone users will likely be mad, but it is like that with everything... People whine when they do not have the newest any more, and it certainly must be Apple's fault for releasing a new and updated product.

Not gonna happen.

Also, iPod rumored releases are accurate as the product is coming out at that moment most of the time. To correlate a year anniversary of the iPhone on a vapor level to a hard launch date rumor correlation is poor.

i predict they will up the storage on the iphone, but not give it 3G until later in 08.

Either way I'll consider buying it when it gets 3G and outlook direct push. I had to return it b/c I don't want to carry two phones, but I did like the phone a lot.

BTW: keep buying apple products, my aapl stock and wallet thank you
