I know right! But, HD display has gotta make even ME want one. I dont care about LTE as I am a tmobile sgs2 user but a nice screen on a tablet is exciting even if it is an apple product.

It still needs a UI that's appropriate for tablets, especially now that it has so much more resolution to work with.

So a few questions which I am guessing we dont know some / all of yet:

1. Does it have an HDMI out socket so I can play movies etc on my HDTV through it?
2. Does it have USB or micro USB ports?
3. Its got 4G. I'm in the UK and 4G wont really be available until 2013 and even then its going to be rip off priced until at the earliest 2014. Can you use 3G with it ok?
4. The RAM is apparently 1gb ? Given what the new xbox / playstation replacements coming out this year have this seems really low. I take it that it doesnt matter as Apple apps dont need to use any more? Seems like its going to be a bit limited on the new games front though.
5. Is this a stop gap product for a few months and before the end of the year the real ipad3 will be launched, one with more RAM, USB, HDMI, etc? Dont want to fork out my money if so.

Anyway thanks if anyone knows. Cheers!

RAM doesn't seem to matter as much for Apple

Such is the life of Apple products

Has it been announced that it won't support T-Mobile USA's AWS band? I didn't see it. They said that it will support more bands than any other device... and while Apple is prone to exaggeration, I figured T-Mobile support was there.

USB support is actually half way there with the camera connection kit. You can't use flash drives and hard drives without jailbreaking, but you can plug piano, external DAC (provided the DAC supplies its own power), and many more random things.

unless it acts as a PnP USB drive I'll never consider what Apple has USB support.

Personally I would have liked it if they bumped up the storage, but it's not a deal breaker and I suppose that they need to save something for next year.

Given that Apple has a fairly stable one year product cycle, it's unlikely. Also, I don't see them ever adding USB or HDMI ports. They probably realize that most users won't use them and that those who really need it can get the adapter. Also they probably wouldn't mind if you bought one of the new AppleTVs and used AirPlay instead of hooking up the device with an HDMI cable. :sneaky:

The best thing about the new ipad is that other tablets will surely adopt the retina display as well.

My next tablet will need to be able to function as an entire computer - I want a fast quad core, good graphics, usb, hdmi out, and a nice bluetooth keyboard. A proper office suite would be nice as well.

I like my playbook but it's limited to being a content consumption device as opposed to something that I can actually create stuff on.

The radio in the New iPad will be the new radio in the New iPhone.

This is why I want answers as a TMO US customer.

Can the New iPad play with TMO's network or not?

It's thicker and heavier, and sucks 70% more battery juice per hour of use than the previous version. For a mobile device, these are not good trends.

I will say that the new ipad is certainly not what I wanted, but it was what I expected. The rumors were amazingly accurate this time around.

What I want from apple is a tablet that can function as an entire computer.

Apple probably will never do this as it will cannibalize their computer market. RIM or android will probably do this within a few years though.

Huh? 9-10 stated hours of battery life on 4g is the same as the 9-10 stated hours of the ipad 2 on 3g. From the engadget live blog today, I didn't see anything showing a drastic reduction in battery life.

It has nearly a double sized battery. That's why it's slightly thicker and heavier in order to maintain the same battery life.

The battery life itself is awesome though. They just "solved" the LTE problem the same way the Razr Maxx did.

Heavier by .11 pounds? Noticeable but not by much. Sucks 70% more battery? It has the same battery life as the previous one.

I believe he's talking about the fact that's it's using a bigger battery to achieve those same numbers. I dunno about his exact figures though.

Battery is 70% bigger, lasts same 10hrs on WiFi model. LTE only takes 1 hr off, so I don't think the bigger battery was for the LTE. That new display is the power hog.

I think retina is overkill. 1080p would be more reasonable. Even a Gtx 580 would struggle at that resolution.
