New Internet worm affects Windows users

Scripting, basically. There are vulnerabilities in IRC that allow remote control if the user has a pathway into your PC.

I haven't had a virus in forever.

That's what they want you to think. 😀

yep, the good ones you don't know about.

Yep, noobs who use usenet get a virus that destroys their boot sector. It's awesome 😀.

Why is that awesome? Such an elitest attitude. Just because someone is new doesn't mean they should have their OS and files distroyed. Thats pretty lame if you ask me.

This worm attacked our network at work. They handled it very well and it doesn't appear to have done any real damage. Sounds pretty big though.

Someone's sarcasm meter is broken 😀.

problem is it spreads on port 445.

After all the other MS security holes that one is pretty locked down once you leave a single AS and into another AS. But you can't lock it down inside the internal network MS networking doesn't work.

Care to elaborate? Lots of folks have viruses/spyware on their computer and will never know it. No signature for it.

I'm one of them :Q

Seriously guys, win2k here with IE core stripped - not only has IE never been run .. it can't because it's not installed.

I've close to a dozen different antivirus, antitrojan, and antispyware packages, as well as examined all loaded .dll's ... all found nothing ...

Yet something on it tries to make a netbios connection to random IP's on the net, as detected by firewall software and confirmed with packet sniffer.

This is from months ago and totally unrelated to the OP's current alert, but I thought I would toss in my $.02 about being smug about security. I used to be ...

Last I checked you can't remove IE since that is what microsoft said in their lawsuit against them since it's built in the OS.

Bring up any file box and you can just enter a website and it works.

Not sure what you did to get around that. 😛
