New IntelliMouse Explorers, looking for comments.

I'm thinking about buying one of these: Microsoft Wireless Desktop Pro

I love the keyboard (already use a similar model at work) so that isn't an issue... but I've heard some complaints about the latest Intellimouse Explorers. The mousewheel no longer *clicks* as you roll it, it's an even motion with no sense of "moved x number of spaces". Some negative comments I read specifically mentioned difficulty selecting weapons in FPS games due to this ambiguous scroll control. I really don't play that many FPS (more into RPG's and MMO's), but I do play some occasionally.

I'm looking for comments... is this new mousewheel HOT or NOT? =)

I planning to buy one from Futureshop (Canadian version of Best Buy) and they have a 30 day return policy on pretty much anything... but I don't even want to bother with the hassle if I hear a lot of negative reviews.

Thanks!

The mouse is excellent for everything except gaming. Switching weapons is a PITA.

Hmmm... maybe I'll have to shop around for one of these and see if I like the feel of the keyboard.

Logitech® Cordless Comfort Duo

My problem is finding a really top quality wireless mouse with an ergonomic keyboard. I can't even use a regular keyboard anymore. Some of the better Logitech mice only seem to come alone, not bundled with a really great keyboard.

Smooth wheel is great. Those that don't like it are crazy. It takes some time to get used to it in gaming but once you do its just fine. There are new drivers out now too, 5.2

I couldn't stand the mouse for even basic web surfing. I plugged my USB MS Intellimouse Explorer back in. The wheel was terrible, the orientation couldn't be changed, it just was a hassle.

<--- really wants the black leather mouse in a wired fashion

Anyway, I am not a gaming, but the scroll wheel with tilt is sarting to grow on me (might be about a month into it). Admittedly, I have yet to find a real good use of tilt yet.

Coming off the Logitech cordless mouse, I really missed the clicking feel of the wheel. I thought maybe it was broke or something. But I've gotten used to it, and in fact I prefer it now. It's more precise, for me, and just feels right. Never figured it would happen, but it did. Plus I'm not changing batteries all the time.

My only complaint is that the springs that support the buttons are a bit weak for me. I rest my middle finger on the right click button, and sometimes just the weight of my finger sets it off. They should have an aftermarket 'heavy spring kit', for people like me with heavy fingers.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I think the Logitech MX1000 is probably a superior mouse... but it doesn't seem to come bundled with any decent keyboards. I still can't believe people haven't switched to the split keyboard... they are really amazing once you get used to them.

Anyway, I'm trying to get away from having 2 different wireless receivers (already have that with a logitech keyboard and microsoft mouse). Maybe I'll try out the Microsoft combo and just return it if I can't get used the the mouse.
