New Intel x58 board and Nvidia 8800gt not using x16

I just upgraded my comp last night to a i7 920 w/ the Intel branded x58 mobo, but kept my old nvidia 8800gt video card. Installed it in the top pci-e slot like the manual said, but the bios only detects it's lane width to be x8.

I'm afraid that this is hurting my cards performance as it should be x16 width, and I've been getting weird pausing during games. Flashed the mobo to the latest bios and tried the pci-e 1.1 compatability setting and still no change.

Any one seen this problem or have suggestions on what I should try next?

You could use an eraser on a #2 pencil, and clean off the PCI-E contacts. Perhaps they got dirty.
