New Install Won't Power On

I put together a system with the asus sli premium motherboard and it will not power on. The LED light does turn on on the motherboard but when I press the power button on the case I hear a littl psst sound but nothing turns on. I look at all my connections and everything looks correct. I connected both power cables (on the 20+4 pin cable you connect the extra four correct?) Could it be a bad power supply even if the LED lights up. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Do your drive(s) spin up? Also, did you connect the other 4 pin cable located at the top of the motherboard near the CPU? (And yes, you should connect all 24 pins)

Nothing spun at all - I actually got the system to boot and I did connect the power connector near the cpu. Strangely it only boots if I unconnect the extra 4 pins and only connect the 20 pins. Anyone have an explanation for this? Also should you connect the EZ power plug by the pci express cards if only using one videocard?

Not sure what the problem could be. As for the EZ Plug, the manual implies that you don't need to connect it unless you are actually using SLI. From what I have read though, it certainly can only help to plug it in, to ensure enough juice at all times. I plugged mine in even though I am not currently doing SLI.

Its the one in the Antec Sonata II case - I believe it is the Smartpower 2.0 450 Watt. I just dont understand why it workes with 20 pins plugged but not with 24.
