New Install of WXP on Serial ATA Drive

Can someone provide any information if a new install of WXP can be done on a new serial ATA HDD prior to downloading service pack 1 or 2?

Thanks in advance.

I don't think that it should matter whether it's service pack 1 or 2. Just make sure that you have the driver for the SATA controller in case you need it.

As far as I know most new boards doesn't need anything for WinXP to pickup your SATA drive as long as it is connected directly to your board.
Otherwise as 'cprince' says, you need to have driver for the controller.

I installed Win2K SP1 on a P5LD2-VM board with the SATA drive attached to the onboard SATA port and it works fine.

Also, take precautions against worm attack (scroll halfway down to the large pic), and remember that prior to SP1, WinXP couldn't do partitions beyond 137GB-ish. Consider slipstreaming SP2 into your WinXP installation files, then burning a new installation disc.
