Has anyone ever seen this. I am attempting to do a fresh install of win XP Corp.

After the program copies all the files to the temp folder it reboots to finish the instalation.

It never gets back to the intalation, during boot sequence it stops and just gives me a half page of

99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99

I get a half page of this and then it just sits there, nothing else happens.

Any ideas.

Not much help here but from my 100+ installation of fresh XP I have yet to have that problem. Have you tried more then once to restart it?

Last time I had XP installation problem ,was due to faulty ram, guess no harm in you downloading and running Memtest86+ to rule out ram problems, better safe then sorry.

Looks like the MBR is corrupted. I have seen this after a Linux Installation ( Xandros ) using the LILO Boot loader and the MBR get corrupted. Go to the recovery console and run " fixmbr ".

If LILO is unable to load, it returns a hex error code.
One annoying problem is that LILO cannot read the table map. The error looks something like: L99 99 99 99 99 99 99 99 [repeat for 10 lines...]

When the first stage loader gets control, it types the letter "L"; when it is ready to transfer control to the second stage loader
it types the letter "I". If any error occurs, like a disk read error, it will put out a hexadecimil error code, and
then it will re-try the operation. All hex error codes are BIOS return values, except for the lilo-generated 40, 99
and 9A. A partial list of error codes follows:

00 no error
01 invalid disk command
02 address mark not found
03 disk write-protected
04 sector not found
06 floppy disk removed
08 DMA overrun
0A bad sector flag
0B bad track flag
20 controller failure
40 seek failure (BIOS)
40 cylinder>1023 (LILO)
99 invalid second stage index sector (LILO)
9A no second stage loader signature (LILO)

I ran fdisk and formatted the disk before I attempted to load xp . Could the MBR still be corrupted? I did have Linux loaded on that disk, thats why I used fdisk to get back to only one partition and formatted after my first attempt ended badly. Second try from a backup XP disk gave the same results.

Thanks for the help

Best way to install linux and windows is to load windows first.

Windows tends to fudge the bootloader when it finds linux, where as linux just installs and keeps windows in the bootloader.
