This is ridiculous. This is the second system I have put togethter in the last two weeks or so. Both machines are totally differnt with no similar components. Both systems are experiencing mouse lag.

When I am opening a window (web page or just browsing a directory) the mouse lags. I have tried two different video drivers and the newest mouse drivers. What else can I try?

Current machine is 3.2E P4 w/1GB HyperX Ram, 250 GB hd. 256MB xfx video card. tried 66.93 driver and 67.03 drivers. Same effect.

I tried a differnet USB mouse nad it seemed better but not like it was before the format.
The mouse is a mx1000 and it worked perfectly before the new install.

system is 3.2e P4, 1GB hyperX pc3200, gigabyte mobo. I'm actually reinstalling windows now so I'll see what it does..

yes it's a usb 2.0 hub. I can put it directly into the usb port on the back of the pc but it was on the hub before the install and everything was fine.

Perhaps I'm missig some blatantly obvious reasons for not using a PS/2 mouse, but why not try using a PS/2 mouse? Borrow one from a friend, or pick up a cheapy and try it out and check for this problem.

My brother uses an MX500(maybe 510?) USB mouse, and I cannot stand the lagtime for the mouse when playing a game. It's for this reason that I explicitally avoid USB mice. Oddly enough, I dont have this problem on an MX300 with the USB->PS/2 converter.

Interesting you say that. i was going to make another post about this sometime in the near future.

My 250GB maxtor hd is hooked up to a ata133 controller card because my motherboard only has ata100 ide ports. I have ide0 and ide1 disabled inthe bios because I have no need for them.
1. Is there a DMA mode on an ata133 controller card?
2. Would enabling ide0 and 1 in BIOS make it possible to choose DMA in Devcice manager?
3. Would #2 even matter since I am using the ata133 controller card?

Personal preference. Since the day I bought the mx1000 it has worked flawlessly with absolutely zero lag. Of course I haven't used it in a game beacause I rarely game.
Also, I wanted a wireless mouse. I don't want any cord at all.
Having said that I will probably connect it without the hub and see what that does.
If all else fails I will get my trust dual optical out and use it and just get rid of the mx1000. I shouldn't have to do that becasue I know it will work. Must be some issue with my new system???????

The MX-1000 comes with a USB->PS/2 adapter.. Hook up the mouse to the PS/2 port and see if the problem goes away EVEN IF you were hooked up via USB beforehand.. We can go from there..

P.S. Make sure the mouse base is not near any electrical devices (as stated in the documentation)..

P.S.S. I assume your battery level is high (how many green lights on the mouse are light up?)

I had the same problem. When I plugged it directly into the USB port, it worked fine.

Well I'm back wiht not-so-good news. I tried plugging it into the USB port directly, still bad.
I tried hooking it into the usb---->ps2 adapter, still bad.
It's not near anything electrical.
Battery life is at 3 bars. No problem there.
I was really liking this mouse but something has gone horribly wrong. The lag is killing me. I don't do alot of gaming but since I built this new pc I was planning on installing some games. The lag would not be worth it.

What else can I check?

The only thing different is it's on a new mobo with a different processor and ram. Everyhtng else (hard drive, dvd rom, same install of XP pro w/sp2) is the exact same.
