How is this better than Citi's e-Savings account that is paired with a Free Checking account?

it's not. ing's for people who don't know any better.
they've been trailing the competition for over a year now, sometimes by over a whole percent.
there are plenty of better options. one you mentioned, hsbc, emigrant direct, eloan, etc.
check bankrate.

I love ING. I use it as my piggy bank for my computer fund. Automatically withdraws $20 a week from my bank's checking account and every 2 years I get a new $2,000 computer. Takes a few days to withdraw the cash so that I'm not tempted to spend it. Props to ING!

It's not.

It depends since the rate depends on how much is in your balance. E-Saving is at 5.00% with no min. and you have to have over 50K to get 5.05% on ING checking.

Just got my new ING Debit card today 🙂 Beautiful. Works. I love ING.

Screw the .65% interest rate differnce. They pay 3% on checking, citi pays nada, and you can only transfer in and out of a savings account a certain amount of times in a month.

My direct deposit comes in, and I earn interest while I wait for bills to clear out of the account. Its perfect.
