Hey everyone, I am really glad to see an active and relevant IT forum regarding IT Networks.
I am about to redone the cabling at my new workplace and I face a dilemma problem that I would like to discuss with others that have faced the problem before me. The entire network have 50 users and 30 IP phones.
1. I have in one room 8 wall plates(that I will install soon) with 2 CAT7 cables each, but I need to connect 19 computers and 11 IP phones in that room, here is how I think to proceed and hope there is a better way of doing so.
- I think to use 1 line from each wall plate for IP phones with a LAN Spliter (since they work on 100mb and that requier 4 wires), and after the first direct connected phone to have only one interconnect to ti, so with one Cat7 cable I get out 4 IP phone's.
- The second line on the wall plates to be connected to a switch under the tables (they are 4 spots in the room with tables together) so I will need 4 small switches(that we have). The other way that I think its better is to order a bigger switch with 48 ports and connect everything directly to it, but the thing is that the switch will have to stay in the room, not in the server room, because those cables in the room goes to a patch panel that is IN the room and have connection to the patch panel in the server room
- ? - what do you think about that solution.
2. How to cabling the office room and tables, so I can see as much as less cables possible and they stay in good order and are easier to manage and troubleshoot if needed.
- I am drilling the tables with a hole for cables in one of the corners, my aim is to have 2 Ethernet cables getting out from the table hole on each table.
- I think the switch to be hook up on a place under the table so I can use Velcro ties for the cables and stick them to the legs of the table underneath.
- ? - Power cables , for them I have no considered idea yet, I will be more then happy to hear suggestion.
P.S. I have diagrams but cant see attachment options here.
