The plane was ditched by the pilot. 2 F-16s where in route to take the plane down but it crashed before they got there. The plane had turned toward WDC and was told that if its coarse did not change it would be shot down.... AGAIN, this is from a VERY viable source IT WAS NOT SHOT DOWN!!!! The pilot dumped the fuel, one of the reasons you do not see a big scorch mark where it crashed!

Where did the fuel go then?

I'm sure SOMEONE would notice 40,000 litres of highly toxic jet fuel raining down on them.

Likely true.

We know that planes were dispatched to shoot down other hijacked planes.

This plane was known to be hijacked and it did not blow up when it hit the ground. It made a huge creator, but it did not "blow up".

Think about it. If you KNEW you were going to die at either the hands of terrorists or the millitia, and if at the hands of terrorists meant the death of other innocent people, would you seriously allow your plane to be taken over? No f'ing way! I'd ditch it in the most remote place possible. RIP the people on board, but to crash the plane into something populated (the WTC towers, the Petagon, etc) would be unspeakably WRONG.

Where did the fuel go? If you dump fuel at 20K feet at 250 MPH, the end result on the ground would be negligible. I could piss on you from a 10K foot parachute jump and you wouldn't even know it.

look if it was shot down then it was SHOT DOWN... i'm sorry for all the victims onboard but if it wasn't diverted it would have crashed and killed hundreds more... However, i'm sure it wasnt show down because someone would have seen it being shot in the air

Have you ever noticed what happens when you spill a little gasoline on the ground at the gas station? It evaporates within seconds. That's what happens to jet fuel when it's dumped from a high-enough altitude. We don't know how high the plane was in the air while dumping, but the area seemed pretty rural anyway, so not too many people may have noticed.

not to mention that being jettisoned at that speed tends to molecularize liquid.. ever dump a glass of liquid out of your car window while flying down the highway?

Not sure is this is new information... it was obvious many hours ago, that this hijacked plane did not succeed in its mission for some reason.

Well... ABC just confirmed that this plane WAS crashed by the pilot.

This makes me wonder about the three otherplanes. Were they flown by the terrorists or did the pilot's knowingly fly them into their targets at knife point? I for one would say "kill me. This bird is going down."

Gotta wonder.

the message says it was not shot down but forced out of the air by the pilot, who dumped the fuel beforehand (airplanes dump fuel all the time), after what we would presume to be some sort of struggle onboard the craft. guess we'll look for the black box and listen in on what happened. those black boxes should have camera feeds too.
