A month or two ago, Abit replaced the 7000rpm NB HFS's with much quieter and slower ones on bigger heatsinks for all IS7's (i think) and later fabs of the IC7. My case has nothing short of 11 fans and this one stands out the most! It's driving me insane!

Rumor had it that Abit was going to offer owers of boards with the 7000rpm HFS's a way to trade-up, or at least get a new cooler. Has anyone been successful in getting a new one?

Anyone have anything to add?

Exactly, The only people that are having success in getting the new fans replaced w/o an RMA are the people in Europe. We would have to submit an ERma and send the board in for them to replace it. The Tiger 1 is very good but you can also get the retail replacement from excaliberPC (Abit distributor) for the same price.

You can buy the new Abit NB fan for $5 from ExcalibutPC. There's a big thread, with links in it, over at Abit-usa forums.

aweseome... three more questions

1) does that use the same mounting hardware as the stock fan or is it a paste job?

2) By chance do you know if this is the same fan that would be found... in say... the Hardcano2?

3) In hindsight, would you have gotten the TT again or the second revision Abit sink? (I'll prolly buy whatever you say)

I replaced it with a delta, and lol it was much quieter... I know that you are saying that its silent- and I'm not doubting you- I'm just curious.

Again, thanks to all of you for your help.

1) it comes complete ~ it uses the 4 hs loops to mount it

2) i donno ~ its the same fan as the active ramsinks
its perfectly silent but it works.
if you held it in your hand while it was running you still wouldnt hear it ;)

3) TT :D

Is the existing HSF glued on or did it just come right off? I have a few friends with asus nforce2's who are demanding that I ask that :p

apparantly, even after they got their mounting hardware off, the thermal glue was still too strong to get the cooler off... I can relate to that... vague memories of a crystal orb, a prybar and a geforce2 ultra
