Apple has finally updated the iBook G4's. No widescreen as rumoured (same case as before). The 12" now has a 1.33 GHz G4, and the 14" has a 1.42 GHz G4 (only the two models now). Bluetooth and airport, with support for 1.5 GB RAM (ship with 512MB PC2700, faster than previous models).
The graphics chip has been updated to a Radeon Mobility 9550 with 32MB VRAM. The 12" now has a 40GB HDD (instead of the 30GB that it used to come with) and the 14" has a 60GB HDD. See http://www.apple.com/ibook/ for details.

EDIT: they also come with the motion sensor, and touch-pad scrolling like the powerbooks.

At least its something. Steve Jobs must be super pissed right now he can't release something uber fast until 2006. Poor man. I for one can't wait to see what Apple can do with the Dothan/Yonah chips/Platform.

These iBooks won't win in the speed department, but there's quite a bit to like here. Bluetooth can be handy for a cordless mouse or (if your provider allows) using your Bluetooth phone for contacts or even as a modem.

They're also still the laptops I'd recommend to college and university students on a budget. If you can't afford the expensive laptop to play Doom 3, you might as well get something truly portable, sturdy, and which won't need constant software maintenance to keep the OS running.
