New i7 system unreliable; hangs, BSODs

Symptoms:
System typically hangs a couple minutes after a cold boot. First the mouse pointer starts to jerk, then a few moments later the entire PC stops responding completely. After a reset things work properly again. Hang doesn't seem to happen if PC sits in BIOS or runs Memtest; only after Windows boots up.

PC bluescreens periodically and randomly. Sometimes I get a STOP code and windows does a memory dump (didn't get to write them down coz I forgot to turn off the automatic restart option, meh). Sometimes windows just says "hardware malfunction, contact your system administrator" or words to that effect and then it sits there forever, giving no further information. Typically happens while playing 3D games, but it has bluescreened in windows too.

Network adapter tends to drop IP randomly; resetting the windows network adapter by using the troubleshooting wizard fixes it most of the time. No further driver update available at Asus' site.

Specs:
Windows Vista 64bit, fully patched (both release and SP1; same behavior)
i7 920 (stock speed)
Asus Rampage II Gene
OCZ Platinum 1600/77724 DDR3 6GB
Noctua NH-C12P cooler (also used Noctua NH-U12P)
2x Nv 8800GTX
Enermax Revolution 85+ PSU (also used OCZ 700W unit)

No problems listed in either device manager or msinfo32.exe. I've run Memtest86+ for 3 full laps, no memory errors found. Run Intelburn MANY times, no errors detected.

Problems doesn't seem to care wether I run CPU and RAM at completely stock settings - QPI at 4800MT (or whatever) or 6400MT, RAM at 1066MHz or 1600MHz. Even memory timings don't seem to affect it; leaving it at auto, or setting 77724 manually in BIOS...

CPU temps typically 44C idle, up to 78ish C during long intelburn sessions with case fans set to lowest/quietest mode. Regardless, increasing fans or running with open chassis (loweing temp 10C or so) doesn't affect stability... :/

Have you tried booting the system with the bare minimum of components? (CPU + 1 stick of RAM + 1 GPU)

Not tried with just 1 memory stick, but I did run it with 1 GPU for almost a week because the OCZ PSU I got as a loaner unit while waiting for the enermax didn't have 4 pcie power plugs. I guess at this point, anything might be worth trying. 😛

And to think I built this PC to get away from the D(h)ell XPS box I've used up until now that's been giving me so much grief my hair's literally turning grey, and now I have yet another spontaneously crashing computer... Beginning to think there's gremlins living under the floor of my apartement, causing all of this. :/

Edit:
Arite, the bastard just bsoded on me again, when I switched from desktop back into WoW. Stop #116, nvlddmkm.sys. Wtf? Gah!
