I currently have a C2D (6300) and a TT Big Typhoon heatsink. It's just not cutting the mustard anymore and I'm thinking about getting a new i7.

Does anyone know if the TT Big Typhoon can mount on the new socket? I bought it in the fall of 2006 so I know it wasn't originally intended to. I've been looking around but have only found this which makes me think it won't without the adapter.

the TT Big Typhoon works w/ 775 so if your i7 board support 775 mounting it should work fine (ie a board like the Asus P6T), if not you'll need an adaptor to convert it to 1366 mounting holes

Excellent, that's the one I was looking at, actually - the P6T Deluxe, actually. I don't see any online documentation describing the mounting holes, though...
