Hello All, I greatly value your input and haven't purchased a system or major upgrade parts without it thus far. Can you please once again come up big and help me iron out any kinks on the system build that I'm putting together?

1. What YOUR PC will be used for: Light gaming and mostly productivity applications like photo editing and video encoding.

2. What YOUR budget is: Up to $1k but preferably closer to $600 mark if not necessary.

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from: USA, I have a microcenter near me and that is where I’ll be buying the i7-860. The rest will be NewEgged.

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc: I currently have an AMD and looking to go back to Intel.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are:
I have an Ultra case similar in design to this one (http://www.ultraproducts.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=2337816&Sku=ULT33182) except the HD bays are close to the front.

Probably reuse my current DVD burner but eventually buy a new one.

I have 1 TB HD another 160 GB HD
Intel X25-V SSD 40 GB that I will use as the boot drive till I decide to get a bigger one and put it back in my laptop.

Nvidia 9600 GT

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads: I have looked around but each build is unique.

7. IF YOU plan on over clocking or run the system at default speeds: I will probably do a slight over clock nothing major though.

8. What resolution YOU plan on gaming with: No big deal here whatever the system can handle. I should also mention that I have a samsung syncmaster 225bw 22inch monitor.

9. WHEN do you plan to build it: Plan to build in the next couple of weeks as soon as I’m set on the parts?

Here is what I've picked out can you please let me know what you think and what I should change-up?

CPU Core i7 860 Processor Boxed $212.49 (http://www.microcenter.com/single_pr...uct_id=0317378)
Power Supply Antec BP550 Plus 550W $65.98 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817371016)
Motherboard ASUS P7P55D-E Pro $189.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131621)
RAM CORSAIR XMS3 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM 1600 $114.99 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820145260)

Thats the dilemma I have had, the 930 or the 860. So many good arguments for both sides. Also I did the math on for the PSU and there is no way I need anything over 600 watt. I don't plan on putting two high-end video cards in the system. Also wouldn't it affect the efficiency of the PSU if you pull a lot less than what it's rated for?

so upon your suggestion I'm going to get this chip (G.SKILL Ripjaws Series 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231277). Can you briefly explain or point me to a resource explaining the difference in voltage and what advantage it gives?

Good choice on the memory. 1.5V RAM is necessary for long-term reliability of the Nehalem architecture. More details here. Basically, the memory controller (it's on the CPU in Nehalem) and memory have to run at the same voltage (obviously) and 1.65V is a little high for 45nm and 32nm processes unless you have beefy cooling.

You made the right choice with the 860. It's better and cheaper than the 930 for what you want to do.
