New HP scanner?

I saw the see-through Scanjet 4600 at OfficeMax today, and it looks pretty sweet. Anyone here have any expereience with it?

A buddy of mine bought one mid-October, and today the light crapped out. He took it back to BB and they wanted him to send it back to HP, as he hadn't bought an extended service plan. He objected and asked for the manager. The manager told the service person to get him a new one. Time will tell if this was an isolated incident or if the 4600 has issues.

Glad to see I'm not the only one that has had problems with HP scanners. I bought one (can't remember the model, but it was in the ~$120 range) back in September. Brought it home...the lamp never lit once. Returned it for a replacement. First scan produced a horrible clicking/grinding noise, and the result was the scanner freezing about midway through the scan. Cutting the power off and back on was the only thing that would return it to it's starting position. Tried scanning again...duplicate problem. Took that second one back and got a Visioneer instead. Scanning without problems ever since. Maybe HP scanners are great, but my experience with two new ones back to back will make me never purchase another one.
