I recently bought an HP dv9000 laptop for work purposes. After installing my applications, I noticed one very annoying problem. When the system is working under heavy loads, their is a fluctuating loud noise. I noticed that it comes on when the CPU is under higher loads, but could it also be the harddrive that is causing the problem? It sounds as if the fan over the cpu is spinning at fluctuating RPMs depending on how hard the CPU is working. It doesnt change very much under temperatures changes (Tested under Prime95 with Everest watching), but if the load % (as seen in task manager) spikes, the fan speed picks up instantly and drops as soon as the spike passes. I have the Core Duo T2500 in the HP dv9000, and all my applications use intense math and 2D gfx. I have contacted HP tech support to no avail.
1)What is causing this noise? The CPU Fan? The harddrive?
2)Can this sound be fixed?

thank you

If you have the 'HP System Health Scan' software installed on the
notebook, you may want to run that to see if it will return an error
code that you can throw at the HP techs.

If the notebook is less than 30 days old I would demand a new one.

HP touts it as an "Ultra-Quiet Desktop replacement" (and they are pretty
darn quiet when working properly, especially considering what is built into it)

The first one I ordered had this problem so I sent it back to HP and received a new one. It had the exact same noise problem.
It is certainly not ultra-quiet, it seems almost as if it is designed to do it.
I will check and see if I have the HP system Health Scan.
