So I close in July...time has never moved so slow!!

The builder wouldn't do most of the changes I wanted without charging an arm and 3 legs, so I'll wind up doing them myself at a quarter of the price.

Nice.... I just got my new house 2 months ago. I ended up doing most of the changes myself as well, since the builder wanted to scam me on everything

Yes....that's an Autozone :). Home Depot is a walk up the hill behind it, and a supermarket is about a quarter mile walk in the other direction. Base was 239,900, with upgrades of gold trim and marble floors and ceilings it's 242,500. Or maybe that's just the upgraded kitchen. It's in CT, a new construction in a community with a HOA. The only thing that stands between me and it is actually getting my hands on the HOA (they claim it is still being written.) I'm not a big fan of that but it brings it down into the range of something I can afford. The one next to it is 10k more, and one a few houses down is 30k more, so the price is going up pretty fast. I'll probably be looking for a roommate or two come August, but I'm not counting on it, it would just be nice to invest a little more for retirement.

The house looks nice, but I would not want an Autozone in my back yard. Too many loud, horribly modified cars are always populating the Autozone's in the area that I live in.

Interesting to see your house so close to a commerical building like that. Don't have a lot of that where I live.

are the overhang windows purely for looks or do you actually gain a few inches from the inside? do you have a pic of the windows from the inside? :)

The two months it took to buy my house were horribly long. Worse then waiting for Santa as a kid. Coincidentally, that's the time that my hair REALLY started to fall out.

You actually gain some space. So from the inside (above the garage is the master bedroom) you can fit the bed inbetween the windows (not sure if I will do this) and then put nightstands on either side and they are a little recessed. I think the bed will go on the other side so I can actually look out the windows from my bed.

As for the commercial stuff nearby, I spent many hours sitting outside the place day and night to see if the noise would be an issue. It wasn't anything worse than I've had before, and I noticed a lack of emergency vehicles, which is a big change from my place now. Of course when I lived in Philly I could throw a rock onto the tracks of 30th Street Station, but normally I hate outside noise.

I'm in CT right now. Back in college I lived in Philly (Drexel U.) Moved to DE for a year and then last year moved up here. Paying $810 a month for a 1 bedroom place got really old, really quick!

I'll have to post a few more pics. Right now they have the plumbing and electrical (almost all of it) in. From what I saw last weekend it is insulated with drywall stacked up on the floor. They locked it all up now, so when I want to go see it I have to bug my agent...not that I feel bad doing that, I made this really easy on him, this was the only house I considered!

Ahh alright, didn't read the message fully, and just looked at your profile to see where it was. I was giogn to say the houses aruond here are pretty expensive my parents just signed a contract for building a house and the final cost after some upgrades is around 550,00 Thats alot of money...

Good for you. I just close my house today and will be done by April 30th.

Edit: Housing up North sure is expensive.
