$500 for the 6800 (highest regular clocked) . . . a premium for O/C'd cards.

and it might be a nice increase . . .
Our source told us that the original driver that the press benchmarked back in April when the chip was launched was roughly 30 per cent slower then the hardware is capable of.

So let's wait and see what happens tomorrow.

30%!!?! that's what i was thinkin' :)

I'm getting the X800 Pro XT, it's simply better. I've had ATI Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB for over a year now and its been amazing. So I'm going to stick with ATI for my gaming needs.

I switched from Nvida a good while back also but might be interesting to see what happens with the new drivers.

Is $435 a good deal for the X800 XT Platinum? Cause that's what they're selling for according to a thread on the Hot Deals Forum here. Via Gateway website anyway...

I just ordered.

:Q

:D

ATI Radeon X800XT 8X APG 256MB (claims to be the PLATIMUM edition)

i'll stop talking about nvidia now. Even if i got an "inferior" card, it is plenty "sufficient" for Poor (really poor) ol' me.

I felt bad paying $250 for my Radeon 9700. ;)
I was prepared to pay $550 for a 6800. :p

it's been quite awhile since i had a top-of-the-line videocard that was actually current - probably the Rage 128 . . . my 8500-128MB only cost ~$120 almost 2 years ago . . .

. . . so i saved. ;)

The CURRENT generation of games are pushing the old 9700/9800 cards to their breaking limit - you cannot have MAX rez + detail + FPS + AA/AF . . .

i think i'll have my x800xt (i doubt it is the PE even though the product description says so) for at least a couple of years - probably three until the Unreal3 engine OVERworks it . . . ;)

Worth the wait-nearly 2 months with no new official drivers-it would improve performance on my fx5200-i'll get the drivers when released.

You know what would really improve the performance of your fx5200?

don't we still need DX9.0c to benefit from SM3.0 (not to say software patches, and the actual card to hit the shelves :p)

The HARDWARE is capable of 30% more.

Any estimates on how much more the 5900 HARDWARE is capable of, or the R420 core?
Hardware != actual performance increase.

the R420 is basically a R300 with heavy modifications, its drivers should be mature as well as the performance you can get out of it. Im gonna just wait for the PCI express version of 6800gt and upgrade my mobo all at once, i think.

Yes it is, but I would'nt pay that much. I'll probably wait a while and hope the prices come down. I'm in no hurry because I have a amazing Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB which has kept me happy with my games for over a year now.

No sh*t, I expect to hear a bunch of complaining about how they ordered the card and never got it, and that the cards' status was changed to unavailable after they ordered :D
