I wonder if we might be looking at sexual dimorphism rather than at two separate species, with the new find representing a male and Lucy a female of the same species. While not as obvious as in ungulates (e.g. male moose vs female), sexual dimorphism can be quite pronounced amongst primates; for example, the mountain gorilla male skull is markedly different from the female's (and twice as big).

More money-->more research-->more finds. :)

thanks - I'd have missed this. They've really been finding a lot of unknown species and sub-species lately!

If you're gonna suggest that one is female and one is male...It could be that Lucy is the male. The article says Lucy's teeth are larger than the new find. Last article I studied said they had never determined that the remains named Lucy were female. It's a really creative idea that they could actually be male and female.
