Well, it was a joke with a bit of social commentary in there too. ;) See, a lot of people rationalize having a big gas guzzling vehicle this way. Oh, I own a home so I NEED a truck. I have a child so I NEED a big soccer mom SUV to keep JR protected while he picks his nose in the back seat.

Nevermind...obviously you didn't get it.

Edited-to remove personal attack. Sorry, hanover.

Sort of like you NEED to somehow pass judgment on someone in 95% of your posts?

lol sorry, jokemeter is dead at the moment...

edit: just read the rest of them... and i dont have a stick up my ass. just because some people think the way you stereotype doesnt mean all do. i have a truck, but if i didnt work in construction, constantly tow crap for myself and others, haul my kids bikes all over to go ride in different areas (different desert parks and such) id probably just buy a good 4 door sedan and call it a day. id love to have the mileage of them at least. beyond those reasons, the only other reason i have a truck is... i like driving it. kiss my ass if thats not enough reason for you.

i also like the direction this thread has taken.

What's wrong with a little social commentary? Everyone gets their panties in a wad whenever someone criticizes something about our society. Talk about the pussification of America...

A little social commentary? Absolutely nothing.

Hammering your high-horsed, 0% body-fat, zero-emissions, cop-hating lifestyle into every last one of your 33,162 posts? Still your prerogative, but I'd call that overkill.

Cop hating?

And, I'd say it's more like 10-15% of my posts but whatever.

Any new first-time home owner has to take into account they will spend (at minimum) $100 per week at Home Depot into their mortgage.

Am I mistaking your feelings on cops? I could be - I just have it stuck in my head you're a frequent rider on jpeyton's anti-cop bandwagon. Then again, I just searched for 'taser' and you were nowhere in the first page results, so maybe I'm wrong.

Let the rest stand, however, and at 10% your "commentary" post count would still exceed my total and we registered days apart.

 (unless you're anti-hop, too :p)

No, I'm pro cop. I also support the military for the most part...just not our commander in chief.

I wouldn't rush out to buy anything unless your house is 50 miles from a hardware store. Harbor Freight might be a good place to pick up a set of screwdrivers and a set of pliers. I'd get stuff as the projects require them. I've built up a pretty good tool collection from finishing my basement along with working on my car and motorcycle, I'm sure if I went out and bought everything when I moved in I would have gotten the wrong tools for the eventual job! It's amazing though how fast your "need" list grows. When I moved into my house 3 years ago everything I owned easily fit into the garage (and probably 1 bay at that!) Now I'm lucky to fit what's in the garage in the garage and still have room for the vehicles!

RAID
WD-40

Hydrogen peroxide + band-aids
Extra light bulbs

I never seem to have any of these things on hand when I really, really need them. ;)

Do NOT do what a lot of people do and go into debt to furnish or upgrade the house.

Modest amenities are the order of the day. If you need something immediately go get something from Target or Craigslist. If you abhor the cabinetry, paint it. Over time, you can upgrade to nicer things. But take your time and pay for those things out of pocket.

1. Basic cleaning supplies.
2. Basic cooking utensils.
3. Basic garden supplies.
4. Basic cook book (4 or less ingredients).
5. Basic home repair book such as B&D The Complete Photo Guide to Home Repair, or HD Home Improvement 1-2-3.
6. Purchase tools & supplies as required by project/s.

You shouldn't need much tools for a 4 year old construction because most little things should be iron out by the previous owner in the first 2 years (new home warranty). However, you might want to take a closer look at the exterior paint because it may need some touch up/minor repair.

Good luck.

Reading "order of the day" just made my day.
