After cycling through a number of wireless routers with add-on extenders and being frustrated to no end, I decided to scrap everything and try a new setup with a couple of requirements:

- Try to keep it around $200 total
- Gigabit LAN for desktop and NAS
- Strong wireless signal coverage over entire house and backyard patio
- No ethernet cable drops (yet)

Ended up getting the following for my setup:

- TP-LINK TL-R600VPN gigabit router
- TP-LINK TL-SG1005D gigabit switch
- 3 TP-LINK TL-PA4010 500mbps powerline adapters
- Ubiquiti Networks UniFi access point

I put the access point on top of the cabinets in the kitchen (center of house), and it is connected to the LAN using a powerline adapter. The other powerline adapter is for my AV receiver, which only has an ethernet port for AirPlay. In the office I have my Xbox 360, NAS, desktop, security system receiver, and powerline adapter connected to the router/switch ports. Everything else (laptops, tablets, phones, TVs, PS3, BD player, Foscams) is connected to WiFi.

It has been up and running for a couple of days now, and I am really impressed. I am able to stream Aereo and Netflix anywhere in the house without any issues. Even my wife noticed the improvement, which is big because she is usually oblivious to these types of things. Highly recommended.
