new home - first time wireless set up

so my parents are moving into a new house at the end of the month and didn't want to pay to have the house prewired with cat5, god knows why not, so they want a wireless set up. i've yet to really set up a wireless network, other than helping my sister get her wireless nic for her lappy - anyways, what do i need, any brands that i really need to stay away from or that i should specifically use?

oh, basic setup - 2 story house, 2 desktop pcs and one, maybe 2 lappys on the network.

thanks in advance for help!

i assume you are going to have cable modem internet access?

have the internet acccess company run the cable modem cable (which is usually included in price of setting up service) into the house
to a location that is "central" to where the computers will be. don't have'em run it into the basement (unless all your computers are in the basement, and maybe not even then)
you want to have your cable modem next to your wireless router, which should be next to one of your computers - you can direct cat5 cable this computer to the router.

you can then get a USB wireless access point for the other computer(s), or wireless nics for the laptops.

if you have "range" problems, you can consider a wireless booster box

central location of the wireless router should help reception

i've had excellent succes with linksys products..others highly recommend netgear...they are really commodities now, and you can probably just pick based on price/features
