New, highly contagious virus here: Bioweapon test?

OK, so it's not real serious, but my relatives from Ky just visited Seattle. Before they started, one of them became ill with sore throat, head congestion. Not serious enough to go to a doctor, but unpleasant. The other 3 people traveling with him caught it within 2 days of traveling here. Then my wife, daughter, and I all caught it. And I almost never get ill. I make that out to be 100% infection rate for any one who has any sustained contact with the victims. My daughter tells me most of the teachers at her high school and many of the students have similar infections. My son, 300 miles away, has a similar infection and says its going around his college campus.

Now maybe I'm being a little paranoid (OK, a lot paranoid), but this infection seems to be a great test vehicle for a bioweapon. Not serious enough to send people to the doctor and get the CDC involved, but unique enough symptoms that it should be easy to track for anyone with the resources (monitor sales of decongestants, tissues, school absentees, etc). The government did several clandestine releases of bio and radioactive materials in the 50's and 60's, and I wouldn't put it past the current leadership to do it again.

What do you think? Is this virus in your area yet? Maybe nature just stumbled onto a really nasty virus? Will I have the Men in Black haul me away tonight?

Well, there's definitely been something going around here in Ky. I was sick from Fri. - Mon. Allergy-induced I thought at first but my daughters have been kinda sick and others at work have been out, too.

Add to that airplane air on the trip from Ky. to Seattle and.......

Seems to usually coincide with the opening of the school year...kids passing colds/virii around and all.

you've got SARS

Yes, I've wondered if maybe SARS has mutated into a less lethal, but more contagious form. If so, and I'm the first one to report it, I claim naming rights! And the patent!

Its called the common COLD.

And yes it is highly contagious when you are in say, the confines of a plane, classrooms or dorms.

No institution and especially no government is capable of carrying out a conspiracy of that nature. They are made up of people, and are generally beauracracies. A good way of determining the IQ of the group: Take the average of the IQ of all members then divide that number by the number of members.

Maybe it's because you're sick that you start noticing that other people are sick too?

I know everyone jokes that the government can't keep a secret, but they have done something like this before and kept it secret for decades!

I've never seen a cold spread so quickly, so universally. Maybe I'm just getting old!

Why is my phone line clicking now?;)
