hi.
THIS IS MY Q?
I AM PUTTING A PC TOGETHER AND THESE ARE THE PARTS SO FAR:
P4 3.4G LGA 775 CPU
ASUS P5P800 MOTHERBOARD
ATI RADEON 9600PRO 256MB
2X 1GB PC3200
NOW ...I HAVE NOT IDEA WHAT HD TO USE...IDE..ATA...OR SATA AS YOU CAN SEE I DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEM....I HEARD THAT SATA DRIVES HAVE A FEW PROBLEMS WHEN YOU INSTALL THEM OR INSTALL WINXP...CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN THIS TO ME? WHAT PERFORMANCE WOULD I GET OUT OF A SATA DRIVE THAT I CANNOT GET OF A IDE?

It is bad ettiquite to type your messages in all capital letters like that. Just so you're aware.

SATA is an interface. It doesn't make the drive faster, since drives are limited by their mechanicals. The fastest SATA drive on the market is the 74GB Raptor and it's actually a regular IDE drive with a PATA-to-SATA bridge chip stuck onto it. SATA does offer cute little data cables, a significant factor for the ricer types.

If you want the simplest installation then use a normal ATA/100 or ATA/133 drive. If you want the last word in real-world performance under heavy I/O, get current-model 15000rpm SCSI. If you want the best gaming performance then I suggest abandoning that Prescott-core P4 in favor of an Athlon64 and upping the video card to at least a 6600GT.
