New here, go easy on me

Hi guys. I recently decided to take the step to build my own PC vs having it made for me by dell again. The money I saved vs buying it from someplace like alienware was impressive and I was able to salvage many of the parts from my old. I don't want to bore you with specifics, but I have a couple questions about my new system (which is up and running well so far). I have done much reading over the last two months on sites like this and have learned SO much about hardware that this has turned into a really great experience.

Here goes: My sound card. I had an audigy 2 in my dell, and had intended to use it in my new system. However, when I was buried in my K8N neo2 plat manual, I discovered that you could not connect the case (antec lanboy) to the sound card. The not-so-good folks at creative insulted me when I called in asking questions about how I might connect the case to it, so I got nowhere with them. Now this may sound noobish, but but the case plugs into the MB audio just fine so I have been using that. I had originally thought that the sound card was there simply to give better quality sound and I'm only using 2 speakers and a sub.
1a. I have since gotten the impression that having a seprate sound card frees up the proscessor to do other things, thereby increasing its speed when gaming. Is this true? if so, to what effect?
1b. If I leave the case (i.e. the front headphone speakers) plugged into the MB, and install the audigy 2, will the connectors in the front of the case still work (or do they need to be installed directly into the soundcard)?

Feel free to toss in recommendations I haven't thought of. I did try and find this stuff on the web and with the search function here, but to no avail. Thanks!

1a> yes this is true about freeing up your cpu, but the performance increases are marginal not huge.
1b> They need to be installed directly into the soundcard. If you go with your Audigy for sound be sure you disable your onboard sound in BIOS. Its rewarding building your own isnt it? 🙂

It rocks! Thanks for your help. Since I have it here, I think I will try using it. I dont use the headphone jack in front all that much anyway.

Playing EQ2 every clock cycle you free up helps 🙂
