New heatsink on A64 3000 - black plastic mounting thingy question

I just installed a Scythe SCSM-1000 Samurai on my A64 3000 Socket 754. Based on the instruction manual I removed the black plastic thingy that was attached to the backplate, and that my previous heatsink had attached to. So, the 585g or so sink is attached to the backplate by two long screws...my temps are fine, a little lower than they were before, but I don't want to warp my mobo. My tower is upright now and it seems to be holding fine, but I wanted to make sure that removing the black plastic thing was the right thing to do. If anyone knows, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Yeah, the LOTES bracket, that's the one. OK thanks...just wanted to make sure I hadn't done something stupid.
