It took me 6 months to get the quotes together and figure out which company to go with. Trane, Carrier, or American Standard (same as trane). I ended up going with American Standard because the cost was less than Carrier by $1000 and about $3000 lower than Trane.

I'm still waiting on my backup furnace (nat. gas) to be setup, but have been running on the heat pump since last Thursday. The new unit is a 3-ton Heritage 15 heat pump with a Freedom 95R variable speed air handler. I never knew how good the variable speed air hanlders were...what I'm noticing is that the house doesn't seem to get cold before the thermostat signals the heat pump to kick on. I can stand next to the intake and hear the fan get louder after the heater starts getting warmer...it's got a slight delay before it really gets going. I can't wait to see how the furnace fits in the system...I just got my gas meter installed today, so the HVAC will be back to fire the furnace for the first time Wednesday. It'll be a nice warm morning on Christmas between that and the gas logs I installed tonight in my fireplace. :)

This is my first heat pump...anyone have anything to say about how well they work? This should come in around 14.5 SEER for cooling...the furnace is 97% efficient according to the documentation supplied with it. I'm hoping this will be a huge step up from the 30 year old 6-8 SEER AC unit and electric coil heater my old central unit had. I can't wait to see my electric bill in February for next month.
