Just heard on NPR news that it will only keep someone alive for about 30 days. I wonder why. Does to body reject it?

i didn't see the 30 days part....they just finished putting it in and are discussing it as a pretty permanent solution, so 30 days seems weird.
as far as the body rejecting it, titanium and plastic are pretty antiseptic materials, so there should be no problem of immune rejection, it ought to just ignore it. and the batteries are rechargeable w/ the lil beeper thing worn on the belt, so...
