New Headaches and Beer! What gives?

I normally drink about 4-5 beers twice a week which gives me a good buzz and I'm still good for work the next day. Though now if I drink say 2 beers, later that evening I get a bad headache and the next morning the headaches are so bad (feel like my eyeballs are going to pop out of their sockets!) it is hard to even get out of bed. Any ideas? Possibly becoming allergic or something?

Thanks for the replies

It usually takes me a good 7+ beers to get a headache from drinking the next day (hangover) but I would never get a headache in the past after a few beers. How could I get a get a hangover from 1-2 beers.....no way. But what the hell is happening to me? I'm 37 and have always drank moderately since late highschool and drank alot in college (ie fraternity)....just what the hell is going on now?

You might be getting sensitive to the impurities in beer. As much as it bugs me to suggest it, give vodka a try one night. If 2 beers give you a headache, try 2 shots of vodka mixed with something. If you get a headache the next day, it's the alcohol, if you don't, it's the components of beer that are giving you the headaches.

I get migraines from beer, so I've pretty much stopped drinking in general. I agree with lxskllr, try something other than beer to see if that helps.

I had the same reaction to beer after I stopped drinking it for many years and then tried to start drinking it once again. I used to be able to consume a case in a day when in college with not so much as a hangover. Once I quit for years and tried some casual drinking again I could not even get through 3 or 4 beers before the headaches would start. If I drink imported beers it does not seem to be an issue. If I drink Scotch, Cognac, or some other hard liquor it does not happen at all.

The one thing I notice when it happens I seem to be have nasal congestion at the same time. It may be an allergy in my case. You may have developed an allergy also.

In all seriousness - I've had this reaction to beer more that a few times the past year or two.

Just the other day I drank maybe 3 or 4 Miller High Lifes and started developing a nasty headache. 3 or 4 beers is usually like a few glasses of water for me.

I wonder if there's some sort of new preservative or ingredient nowadays. Or maybe batches that used to be unacceptable are now shipped.

I get the same things. Probably 1/3 of the times that I drink beer I develop a nasty headache within 30 minutes after the second or third beer. The pain is a solid pressure behind my eyes.

Sometimes it happens.. sometimes it doesn't. Same type of beer every time. I got a headache new years eve after my 3rd beer which pretty much ruined the entire night. When I get one of these headaches I usually stop drinking alcohol and start drinking bottled water. It never helps though.. the next day I always have the same headache for the entire day.

I wish I could figure out what actually causes it.

That's sounds more like a migraine...doesn't look to be too serious if you aren't forced to lie down though. It is a bit odd that it's not consistent, even with the same beer.

It's called getting old. Back in college I could drink a 12 pack and wake up like I drank nothing. Now I get headaches from 2 or 3 beers unless I drink a half gallon of water before bed.

Is it a new kind of beer? Sea Moose made the following recommendation to me a couple months ago:

Trust me on this. Get a beer brewed under german purity laws. They are of the highest standard and you are very much less likely to get a head ache.

http://www.becksbeer.com/lda.a...urnUrl=%2fdefault.aspx

You might try to drink some of those and see if this still happens. If this just started all of a sudden and you're drinking the same kind of beer you've had in the past, then I'm with the other posters and think it has to do with a change in your food/water intake.

You're on the right track but, the solution is to drink better beer, not switch to vodka.

That was just to narrow the problem down ;^)

I despise vodka, but short of Everclear, it's about the purest alcohol you can get without any complex congeners or anything.

I've has similar experience in the past. I'd drink the same beer all the time & all of a sudden started getting headaches after 1 or 2. Not bad headaches, just slight, annoying ones that wouldn't go away for several hours. I don't recall feeling hungover the next day though.

I always drank from the bottle directly but then i tried pouring it into a glass. That fixed the problem
I drank from a glass for about a year & just a few months ago tried drinking from the bottle again & haven't had those headaches yet.

Try different beer, more expensive beer.

I imagine the mass produced beers might cause problems for some people due to certain products and byproducts.
Sam Adams is an easy to come by brand that holds a high standard for the ingredients.
