I am having trouble changing a hard drive. I am replacing two old HDD, a 10GB "C" and a 5GB "D", with a new Western Digital 7200 RPM 40 GB HDD. I used Ghost2002 to make an image of the old "C" and "D" HDDs. The OS on the Ghost image is Win XP corp edition. My motherboard is an Asus P3B-F.
After installing the new 40 GB HDD, I rebooted and went into the BIOS. The new hard disk is seen in "auto" detect, but when I save and exit, then reboot, the new HDD is no longer seen. When I try to use Western Digital's Data Lifeguard Tools, the software says that there is no Western Digital HDD present in the system. Any suggestions on how to get the new HDD recognized?
If I reboot and then try to used the corp edition of WinXP it will allow me to format ( Why doesn't it FDISK?) And I tried to format the WD 40 GB HDD as a single partition, but it will only do it as NTFS. However, If I partition the HDD into a 30 GB "C" and a 10 GB "D" drive, it will let me use fat32.
The software disk that came with the new Western Digital Hard Drive, "Data Lifeguard Tools" has Fdisk and format functions, but says it is not for WinXP.
So can anyone help me to:
Get the BIOS to recognize the WD 40GB HDD
FDISK (?) and format the new HDD as a single Fat 32 partition so that I can restore the Ghost image of "C" drive ( Ghost image of "D" drive had virtually nothing on it & I will not restore the image.
