Look at my signature you can see I have a "HTPC" rig

the wd800jb (PATA) is currently my c:

http://www.loveno.be/product/9...0-100)-8Mb-buffer.html

say if I get the new wd 640gb harddrive, should i just plug it in as a storage drive (my main point is to get space for "400mb increase per day of d/l" of hong kong tv drama) and call it a day; or

install the newly aquired wd 640gb and partition 40gb for vista to get performance increase?

i hate to reinstall vista, eventho it is a fast process, but if i can feel a perfermance increase i would do that, my usage on that computer is just to browse the net, some dvd, avi, rmvb videos.

Thanks in advance.

If the OS on the WD800JB drive still runs alright for you, then just use that WD 640GB as storage. Maybe defragging the C: drive would help a bit rather than reinstalling Vista.

Thanks for the reply.

I ended up reinstalling Vista because the more I read the forums here, the more itchy I was to upgrade.

Thus, I gave my E6750 to my gf, took her M2A-VM mobo and 3500+, bought 2gb of ram, to replace my Socket A system, installed Vista on the 640GB. And bought a Q9450 for my main computer.

Now I can see the WD640 is very fast, Windows experience index in Vista shows 5.9 while my main computer's Seagate 7200.10 shows 5.7 only.

And now I want to buy a Velciraptor, upgrade never ends, gotta stop reading forums here.

That 640 will spank the pants off that 80 even if the 80 was wholly devoted to just the OS. Just use the 640 and leave the 80 on the side like for linux dual boot or 80GB desktop to throw random stuff to work from.
