New HDD - data transfer query

Hey people, i just got a new seagate cude IV 80GB, which is quite nice :¬) But i want all my old data like all my photoshop and music videos/mp3's etc on my new hard drive, but im not sure how to do this in the most painless way. I cannot just backup stuff on CDR's cause my music folder alone is 10GB+, i would just set my cuda as slave install win2k on it (which im on currently on my old harddrive) and then transfer what i need but i've decided to make it more complicated for myself ( :frown: ) by deciding that on my new hdd i want to use WinXP Pro instead. So does anyone have any suggestions how i can do all this with the least hassle? Muchos appreciated for any help i get!

A: use ghost, drive image, or the utility that comes with most new HDDs

B: Take out old drive, install new drive and load OS, put old drive on IDE 2 as master, copy files

Gun: Cheers for the quick response, but can i run two seperate OS's at once on different drives simultaneously, cause thats what it sounds like il'' have to do if i settle with your 2nd idea. Oh and i cant do your first suggestion because if i use ghost it means ill be still on win2k when i want to use winxp pro.

Shurt down computer, unplug PSU, ground yourself.
Take out/unplug your current hard drive.
Put in your new drive as the master drive.
Install XP on the new drive and set everything up (including, if you want, the necessary partitions for your data)
When XP is installed and the computer is running OK, turn it off and unplug the PSU.
Ground yourself, install your old harddrive on either the second IDE channel, or as a slave to your new hard drive.
Plug in power and boot up.
You *should* boot up into Win XP (assuming you set the boot drive as your first HDD)
Your old drive should show up and have its files and folders accesible, copy them over to your new drive.
Turn off computer and unplug the old drive if you want, or reformat the old drive.

That *should* work.

You need the Seagate Disc Wizard Utility. Go to the Seagate site and download their hard drive utility to a folder on your system. You will need two blank floppies. Open the downloaded file and follow the instructions which will make a Seagate Disc Wizard 1 and 2. Install the new drive as a slave on any ide. Boot to the disc 1 that you made followed by disc 2 and you will be able to copy all of your old drive to the new Seagate. Also, there are other programs you may have some use for. It is free and painless.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that after you complete the copying process shut down and change the new drive to master, you should boot to the new drive now. Take the old one out or make it a slave or whatever....
