New HDD and dual boot?

Lonyo

Lifer
I'm getting a new HDD tomorrow, 80 gig WD SE. I have Win 2k on a 55 gig (split 45 main with OS on, 10 gig seconday partition). I was thinking of putting Win 98 SE on the second drive, but would I be able to choose which to boot from? I'm thinking 98 might give me better games performance which is why I want to have it.

1-use a boot manager program

2-or you you could take out the 55 G drive. put the 80 G in install 98 on it, put the 55 G back in (master) ,slave the 80 G (if you done it correctly you should be booting from 2k) edit the boot.ini file add the 98 partition... reboot... voila dual boot..

3-or if you don't mind reinstalling win2k. you could just install win98 first.. and after that win2K..

🙂

note be careful : if you don't take out the 55 G in the second option above you might end overwriting your MBR in the 55 G, and NT wouldn't boot at all
NTDLR missing .... is a message i've seen once too many..

WARNING: It's recommended you install 98 first then Win2K. It's a bit trickier doing it the other way. You'll need to rebuild the boot partition afterwards because 98 is going to trash your 2K boot sectors.

Look in the section called "Rectification of dual boot".

I only reinstalled Win 2k today, after a clean wipe, then my Dad decided to get me a new HDD as I was reinstalling Win 2k 🙁. I really don't wanna have to go through it all again. Ah well.
