New HD Reset Port Error

I just got 4 1TB WD discs from the Egg today and I was eager to install them. After putting them all in my case and wiring them up to the Intel controller (on a DFI LT X48 MB), I got "Port 00: Reset Port Error" message, and the disc won't show up in the Intel RAID Manager. I tried a different SATA cable as well as port, and just for the hell of it a different power connector, but it's just one particular drive that won't read. Should I RMA this drive? I was really looking forward to my new RAID5 setup :frown:

On a somewhat related note, anyone know if the Intel chip on my board allows me to expand an existing RAID array? I highly doubt it, but figured I'd ask.

Do you mean does it support a RAID5 drive that large? Or do you mean a 1TB drive? I have 3 1TB drives together on RAID5 now, just as a test, but I haven't installed the RAID drivers into Windows yet (and fine with reformatting/installing as necessary). If the MB doesn't support a 3TB RAID5 array, I'd be surprised, but it's possible (LBA issues? Can't remember the term). I'd debate buying an add-in card if necessary, but the point remains that 3 of the same drives are detected fine and the 4th gets this error.

sounds like you should have bought barracudas.

seriously though, the drive is probably bad. try connecting it to another computer and see what happens?
