It appears that if you have the money, you can get around the issue.

A German company named Spatz has developed a device that receives DVI.D digital signals and converts them to RGB analog signals. The device supports HDCP on the input side, which is not carried over into the analog domain.

Furthermore, they have also developed a device that converts RGB analog signals into component analog (YPbPr).

The price for the two devices is high: ?350 for the digital converter, ?350 for the colorspace converter.

If Sony plays this right, Toshiba has just thrown the HD DVD battle away for nothing but a minor inconvenience to piraters.

No one will buy it and it will fail.

This may happen if there are 2 formats.

Not many people know about these new formats. Even some waiting for the PS3 don't know anything about the Blu-ray drive.

I think its to soon for a switch from DVDs. Many people just starting buying DVDs in the past 2 or 3 years and they are not ready to switch over.

Whatever format wins will eventually replace DVDs, but its going to take awhile. Until then I'm more than happy with DVDs.
