new HD but cannot load windows

HP Pavillion DV 6700. Bought a new WD Sata 250 gig drive. Installed same and booted to WD drive tools CD. Formatted the hard drive. Installed XP Pro cd, stated install. No fixed disk detected. Ran hiren's boot CD and hard drive showed up to it. Do I need hit F6 and install drivers? If so, how in the heck do I do that, I only have a DVD drive and no floppy. I might could dig up a USB floppy but would love not to have to worry with it.
