New Harddrive

I'm thinking of buying a new HD...is it possible for me to temporarily install it in another computer, move some files over, and then bring it and install it in my computer? I mean all this without going thru a lot of hassle.

Also, if used just for storage and backups, is having a 16 mb cache a significant upgrade to a 8mb cache? Thanks

Answer to both of your questions is yes and maybe. as long as you do not use it as an OS drive (which can also be done except you have to make at least 2 partitions), while on the cache size question, it's an improvement but I don't think it's that significant. Although if the price difference is not that much you might as well get the one with the larger cache.

Ultra ata 150? Didn't know there was such a thing. *shrug*

What exactly are you doing here, because it looks almost like you want to clone the old hard drive, which is doable, but slightly more complex. Don't worry about the interface all that much, nearly all the newer and faster drives are SATA, but the make and model of drive are more important than the specification.

i was thinking of something else when i ssaid ultra ata 150. its the drive on my specs in my sig. My new question is that since WD 2500KS SATA drive i'm looking to buy would be faster than my current drive, should I move my programs and perhaps my OS to the new drive. and if so, how should i go about that.

yes, you can use IDE and SATA at the same time. just make sure you set the motherboard to boot from a specific drive.
