Hi, First off I will give some background into my situation. I used to use 2 ide Harddrives, 1 for my windows installation and the other for all my music, movie, and game files etc. My windows harddrive started to fail, so I ordered a new OEM Western Digital 80gb SATA II harddrive. I am aware that SATA II and SATA are backwards compatible so it is not a problem that my MOBO is 150 mb/s and the harddrive is 3.0G/s. I have fitted my harddrive successfully and got it connected to my MOBO, unfortunately I cannot get it to show up in my windows installation. I have downloaded the latest drivers and put them on a floppy for during the XP install, even after this the harddrive still wont be listed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. My system is:
Athlon 64bit 3200+ socket 939
Abit AV8 Mobo
1gb Kingston DDR memory
320Gb IDE western digital drive
DvD drive
Floppy etc.

Install the jumper on the HD so that it is limited to 150 mb/s I had to do that for mine to show up.

Go into your BIOS configuration and see if the drive is listed there, if not you may need to change an IDE/SATA setting. Some settings disable SATA and only use IDE, but there's usually a setting that lets both operate at the same time, and then you'll have to set the boot priorities.

Also see if your hard drive requires the I/II jumper like btcomm1 suggested.
