New Hard Drive

I just installed a new seagate 500 GB drive (which replaced a maxtor 300 GB drive which I am now using for additional storage space).

with the seagate drive, if I don't use the PC for an hour or so, it loses the internet connection and I have to reboot for it re-establish a connection.

it never did this with the maxtor drive.

I doubled checked the power setting to make sure the drive doesn't turn off after xx minutes.

Is there another setting that would affect this?

Loses internet connection ? that doesn't sound like a hdd problem, did you do any network test ? ping test, etc ?

Is your onboard gigabit LAN controller getting warm?
Sounds like a classic "hot controller re-boot" story.

Did you clone/image your hdd over or did you reinstall windows on the new drive ?

Yes...I used the Seagate software that came with the drive to partition it and then clone my existing boot drive to the new drive...everything else seems to be working fine...
