New Hard drive to RAID

I just found your board and signed up. I have seen alot of good info here.

My question is, I just purchased a second SATA HD for my ASUS p4p800Deluxe. I made the mistake of not making the SATA "Raid Ready" in the bios ( setting SATA as RAID according to the manual) before I originally installed my OS and 1st HD.
Now I want to add the second hard drive in a RAID0 configuration, but the SATA is not set to RAID in the BIOS. The manual says that a OS re-install will be necessary.

Is there any way to set up these drives to RAID without having to re-install my OS again and the hastle of starting all over with everything? I have tried to do a full backup to DVD but I can't seem to pull it off.

Thanks for your help in advance

Maybe look at some imaging software; Acronis' TrueImage is said to support RAID. Image your drive to a DVD, then boot off of that disc, and put the image onto the array.
Creating an array will wipe out everything on both drives.

Jeff7,
Thanks for your response. I wished I would have seen your reply before I ordered Norton Ghost ( just made the transaction on Amazon) I hope it works as well as the acronis software. Call me estupido but what is the array, and how do I put the image on it?

Thanks again,

Your good PC Karma will reward you in the future

Thanks,

When you create the RAID array set up, the information is spread across both drives. That is why all the info would be wiped from the single drive.

You will need to reinstall your OS. You could use Ghost, but I think you would just be better off backing up what you need and doing a clean install.

Make sure you make a floppy of your RAID drives from the CD that came with your mobo. You will need these while install XP.

Let me add some info here:
TrueImage's RAID support is excellent - in Windows.
With the bootable CD, RAID support is spotty. It probably supports common/simple RAID cards, but it can't see a thing attached to my SX4000.
