Simple , when loading OS , it will ask you if you need to install peripheral drivers.
Burn the SATA drivers to a disk and when asked press appropriate buttons for the driver input (S , f6 i believe).
Once the SATA drivers are installed , its just like any other OS install.
Beware though , in order for update to work with MS after a reinstall post sp-3 , you'll need to reset the update service.
In command type regsvr32 wups2.dll .
If you don't get a message saying it installed , or have problems with MS update after that , do a search for "wups2" for the thread with the full command line stop \ start of the service.
Also , do a custom install of updates and get all of them before you do sp-3 install.

XP install discs that already include SP2 don't need additional drivers. If you don't have one, you can make your own from an older XP disc. Google "slipstreaming XP".

Guys...

For you not, but for me this is a bit tricky...This is the drive that's on the way:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...text-_-N82E16822136074

It's "OEM"... do I need to check the WD website for drivers for it? ...just DL'd an installation tool for the drive from WD site. That "slipstreaming" to get SP2 for Win XP... hmm, read directions on doing that...my eyes glazed over a bit...

Is there a "quick & easy" ... or, is that it?

The easiest way to install Windows on a SATA drive is to use the built-in IDE emulation function in your BIOS. I dont' know if ALL motherboards have it, but most do.

The motherboard will present the SATA drive to Windows as an IDE drive and Windows can use its built-in IDE controller drivers for the basic Windows installation.

So, I really don't need that installation DOS tool from the WD website for that SATA2 drive?
