New Hard Drive: Compatability (nice deal too)

aight, the hd that came with my computer recently died, so i've been searching around for a replacement and found a pretty nice deal, but i'm just not sure if its compatable with my computer. i tried calling tech support for my computer, but they couldnt really tell me anything and by the end of the call she ended up telling me just to take it to a local comuter shop. but bah, i dont wanna pay someone to do something i can do myself.

I have an HP Pavilion 763n Desktop computer, the main thing i'm unsure of is the interface of the hard drive. I just dont wanna go thru tha trouble of getting it shipped and it not work when I get it. Also the tech support line said that the max for my computer is 160 gb, but isn't there a way around that?

Chances are your PC uses IDE drives with an ATA 40 or 80 pin connection. The drive in your link is SATA which uses a different type of connector. The best way to tell would be to open the case and see what type of cable the drive is using. If it's a flat wide ribbon cables with wide connectors, it's ATA. If it were a narrow cable with a small connector, it would be SATA

well i just checked and its on a 40 pin connection, so i guess i wont be able to get that one. will ultra ata work on that connection?

I'm willing to bet that your HP computer uses EIDE (large flat ribbon cable). It probably doesn't have an SATA plug on the motherboard, either. Here's a picture of the mobo, I don't spot any SATA connectors.

This HD costs a little more, but it uses the same interface as your mobo... just plug and go.
