My first inclination is simply to unplug my old 80gb, plug in the new 250gb, install windows on the new drive and get it runnin. Then plug in my old drive, transfer what i need, then format it....
Is this the best way?

Why not use the old drive and just put data on the new drive?
Your way should work just fine though.

I pulled the 30GB and placed it in the 160's box ..for emergencies..😉 😀
on a side note.. WD has a fairly nice RMA procedure in place even tho it took almost 2 months turnaround..sent a 60BA got back a 60BB ..🙂

And yes, it is a WD.
on the intial jumpoff for a drive but in everyday use..nope 😛Wouldnt the increased cache help though? 2mb to 8mb?

Cool, didnt know about that online test, thanks 🙂
Drive passed, but ironically clicked/shut off while running the test 😀
About the drive, when i bought the drive it listed a 3 year warranty and even on my invoice it shows to contact WD for support. It seems they lied to me. Should i call and complain tomm and see what they can do?

AS long as you have it as a slave and the 250 as master it wont be a problem to have an old os on there.
If you are going to get rid of the drive I would also suggets Partitioning the 250 for the OS, like 15-20gig partition. That way when you have to reload the OS again you dont have to try and backup data or reformat.
