From CNN/Money on-line

And summer goes on until September 21st, folks.
;)

Snippet:
While still shying away from giving a firm date, Doug Lombardi, Valve's director of marketing, told me the company "is currently targeting this summer for the completion of Half-Life 2".

Valve does not plan to reveal any additional information until the time surrounding the E3 trade show, where the game will once again be shown this year. E3 will be held in Los Angeles May 12-14.

"Half-Life 2" wasn't the only game delayed by the source-code theft. Valve had licensed out the game's "Source" graphics engine to developer Troika, which was hard at work building "Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines," a PC role-playing game. That game, initially set to be released this year, had to be delayed to implement the same security fixes needed on HL2. It now has a target release date of Spring 2005, said Trokia co-founder Jason Anderson.

Snippet #2:
The summer release date of Half-Life 2 is certain to once again divide gamers. Some will be relieved to finally have a date, however vague, that they can target. Others are likely to howl in outrage that the game has been delayed so far beyond its initial target date. (The game was originally scheduled to hit stores on Sept. 30, 2003.) Some ludicrous conspiracy theorists will likely begin regurgitating the ridiculous story that the source code leak was intentional, so Valve would have an 'excuse' to delay the game.

Whoop Dee Freaking Doo, I'm sure glad I bought my video card for the performance and not this crapping Half-Life game.

For the 86th time, a new Release Date for HL2!!!!!

Well honestly, for me HL2 has lost all of the 'Geee Whizz' factor excitement I had for the game since last late summer, before the code theft. There are a few new games upcoming that have distracted me a bit, like Doom 3, UT2004 and others that I could actually see coming out before Memorial Day. And I wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. comes out before HL2, and that folks, is a game that really looks like it will blow HL2 out of the water.

And thats my $0.03

I must be missing something with Stalker. While I agree that it looks very nice and the premise for the game looks good, but the vids I have seen did not get me anywhere near as excited as the vids for Half-Life 2 or Doom 3. It is possible that I trust Valve and id to put out a decent game where as I am not aware of any games the Stalker developers have put out. We'll see. I'm definitely excited about a lot of the games coming out this year.

I wish I can say I did not buy my video card for the Half-Life Release...but I did. I ended up with a 9800 that I flashed the BIOS of and brought to a 9800 PRO (have not had one problem with this). Anyway, it ended up being a good thing as it got me playing PC games again and I bought a bunch that I have thoroughly enjoyed (BF1942, MP2, Halo, and Far Cry demo).

I will probably only upgrade my CPU/memory/MB when these new games come out...at least wait a year or so before a video card upgrade.

This is part of Valve's problem right here. After their little stunt with "Shader Day," delaying a game so long that the "results" are useless is further hurting their credibility. They need to simply shut-up until the game is ready to ship; this is how Max Payne 2 was done, and look at how well that turned out.:)

Oh no! You sound like one of those conspiracy theorists.

I agree with you. It was just an excuse. All they have to say it wasn't ready and it doesn't work with Steam instead of giving out release dates.

Hey man, I'm all up for value, like 8 loafs of bread for a buck, but you can screw valve.

The stolen code from around 9/01/2003 was nowhere near done. The theft is real but they are using it as an excuse. Anyway, Painkiller and UT2004 demos in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully Doom3 will be here before Summer as well.

I've played an early alpha of both HL2 and STALKER. HL2 will be better.

Well this pushes my need to upgrade my hardware back for at least another 4 months or so. The new P4s and chipset should be out by then. This game and Thief 3 are the main two games I'm looking forward to this year (although I have a feeling Thief 3 is going to get the dumb-downed console-like interface like Deus Ex 2 got.)
