So you're saying they're taking a page from ATI's Big Book of Heat, eh. :D
ATi with their stupid-hot (and loud) X1800 and X1900 series cards...
And then NVidia 'steals' that poor design practice for their first-run 8800GTs lol

What I find more annoying is that it first went from February to June, and now it's over to the "second half" of 2008. :p

As far as I know it has even been PUSHED UP instead of back, to keep up with AMD's r700. And yeah yacoub, this thing is going to use more energy then the 2900xt, that's just insane. I also read nvidia is just playing it save, not moving to 55nm or 45nm and sticking with 65nm instead, which is why things will be running hot.

If it's so hot it better offer performance accordingly, if the GT200 is an incredibly fast card then the TDP will be understandable but if it managed to be only slightly faster than the 9800GX2 then you might as well stick with last gen. Again.

Well, ANOTHER unconfirmed post shows the 9800GX2 to be SO hot running that it has a warning in the manual saying not to touch it under operation, haha. And, the 2 slot cooler shouldn't be touched, because it could damage the GPU. Read here: http://www.fudzilla.com/index....=view&id=5540&Itemid=1 it's all rather funny if you ask me. But with the amount of transistors on the g200, and if it has a new architecture, more shaderprocessors and such, it probably will kick a lot of ass.

It doesn't kick any asses. It fries them.

This performance by any means necessary attitude is pissing me off. I avoid single computer hardware devices that doubles as radiators and the electricity bills associated with them. Hopefully there will at least be decent video card with good performance per watt ratio, but that is probably AMD card thanks to 55nm (or smaller) dies.

I didn't find the heatsink warning particularly outstanding, I mean, every card (even the 7300GT on my Mac Pro) get unbearably hot to touch when running, for Christ sakes, even if its a 7300GT we are still talking about 50-60 degrees celsius! I'm surprised this warning doesn't come standard with every card, do you think you can touch a 8800GT's heatsink while running a game without getting a serious burn?

But yeah, back to the point, the 250W TDP is really high, hopefully it is justified.

50-60 degrees celcius isn't too hot for me to touch... I can touch my 7600 when it's under load no problems.
